The company vision


In the years following the fall of the border between Slovenia and Italy, Interporto di Trieste began a process of redefining its role, transforming from a trucking area and intermodal terminal into a key logistics centre for commercial traffic passing through the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

    Interporto di Trieste is positioned within the Regional Logistics Platform as a back-port area serving the Port of Trieste and, consequently, as a hub for goods traffic originating from or destined for Far East countries and the Mediterranean basin via the Northern Adriatic ports. It facilitates the distribution of these goods throughout Italy, Austria, Bavaria, and Central Eastern Europe, with satellite connections in the Tyrrhenian region and other areas of Italy.


    Aware of its geo-strategic location and back-port role, Interporto di Trieste aims to pursue greater openness and progressive integration by seeking agreements, strategic alliances, and synergies with key players managing other Italian and European logistics hubs and infrastructures, as well as with leading companies operating across various sectors of international logistics.

    Through significant recent investments, including the acquisition of Interporto di Cervignano del Friuli in the province of Udine and the former Wärtsilä facilities in Bagnoli della Rosandra, Interporto di Trieste has enhanced its capacity to deliver services to customers. The Company positions itself as an economic actor determined to generate shared value for its local stakeholders, contributing to the strengthening of its international vocation. In this regard, Interporto di Trieste fosters synergies with companies located on its premises and collaborates with strategic European partners.


    In the coming years, the Company intends to fully implement industrial transformation projects in the “FREEeste” area at the Bagnoli della Rosandra site. This will involve substantial new investments aimed at establishing a unique International Free Zone in Europe, which will manage import and export operations, including the handling and storage of goods under customs suspension. In terms of impact, this role will create significant employment opportunities (e.g., the BAT facility) and enhance the competitiveness of the territory, thereby elevating the social role of Interporto di Trieste.


    Interporto di Trieste seeks efficient management of natural resources and contributes, through the regulation of heavy vehicle access to the Port of Trieste areas, to limiting the environmental impacts caused by their transit through the Trieste territory.
